Angie Homola

Angie’s Bio

I began a life of citizen activism when a notice regarding Oak Harbor expansion landed in my mail box. This opened the door to involvement at city, county and state levels. What I have witnessed changed my life. As a result I formed a grass roots group to advocate for accountable government, sound economy, and responsible growth.

We need open effective government directed by elected officials who use reason rather than personal gain for policy decisions. As your commissioner I plan to make that happen by empowering the citizens of this county to be heard and answered. I will uphold the policies and codes that protect our local economy, our citizens and our environment. I will not seek or encourage loop holes that side step the promises of our Comprehensive Plans.

As a licensed architect, I bring a practical approach to the balanced relationship between the built and natural environments. With a career emphasis on Contract Administration my expertise lies in seeing projects built according to plan while maintaining a cohesive relationship between owner, architect and contractor. I have managed numerous projects simultaneously, valued in the millions of dollars. Before becoming an architect I worked as a laborer, machinist and carpenter. This experience provided me with a deep appreciation for vocational skills.

Washington State has been my primary residence for over 25 years. My Bachelor’s of Architecture was earned at Washington State University. In 1997 our family moved to Oak Harbor where my husband serves as a Commander in the United States Naval Reserves.

While they were young, I took leave from my career to mentor our two children in academics, robust play, environmental awareness, art and music. During this time I volunteered in our local school district making costumes, building sets and teaching enrichment courses in medieval arts, architecture, gardening and science.

I worked with the local school district to design and install a playground addition to Broad View Elementary. I volunteered as a Destination Imagination Coach and interviewed high school students for their senior project presentations. For these efforts I was honored with awards for exemplary service to our local school district.

I returned to the work force as a Plans Examiner and Building Inspector in the Planning Department of Island County where I sat on the Advisory Committee for Ebey’s Landing National Historic Reserve. I now own a small architectural business in Oak Harbor.

My community services include Beach Watcher clean up efforts, scuba diving clean up in the Windjammer Park lagoon, Whidbey Playhouse usher and set builder and assistance in the installation of our community playground at Fort Nugent Park.
